Their goal is to help grow and develop our profession through the discussion of best practices in all areas of healthcare security. Michael S. D’Angelo, CPP, CSC, CHPA is the Principal and Lead Consultant for Secure Direction Consulting, LLC. Michael is a Board Certified Protection Professional (CPP), a Board Certified Security Consultant (CSC) and a Board Certified Healthcare Protection Administrator (CHPA). He has been in the public safety and private security industries for over 30 years. Before becoming an independent security consultant, Michael worked in healthcare security management for almost a decade with one of the largest hospital systems in the Southeast United States. Originally, Michael transitioned into security management after a progressive and successful career in law enforcement. He is a retired Captain from the South Miami Florida Police Department. Michael is a published author of From Police to Security Professional: A Guide to a Successful Career Transition, where he chronicles the steps he undertook during his own transition as a resources to professionals following a similar path. He is a regular contributor to the Journal of Healthcare Protection Management and has been part of interviews for several notable security publications; including Security Management magazine where he was interviewed for his highly acclaimed active shooter response plans for hospitals. Michael consults for a variety of industries in both security management and workplace violence prevention and education. He also provides forensic consulting as a security expert witness for both plaintiff and defense attorneys in matters surrounding negligent security and premises liability.

Lauris V. Freidenfelds is the Senior Project Manager for Telgian Engineering & Consulting (TEC) business unit, bringing more than 44 years of executive leadership and consulting experience. Prior to joining TEC in 2020, Lauris spent close to 12 years as the security and emergency management director at a major Chicago academic healthcare institution where he revitalized the security department and established the emergency management program, which kept the institution operational through many different emergencies. Prior to that, Lauris joined Sako & Associates in 1989 and was a Vice President of RJA/SAKO a premier security consulting firm until 2008.

Sarah Miller, PST is a physical security and emergency communications leader with extensive frontline and operational experience within the private security and public safety sectors. Currently acting as Synergy Protection Group Inc’s Director of Operations based out of Toronto and Ottawa, Sarah is actively engaged in developing innovative solutions and utilizing proactive measures to offer best-in-class security services to a wide range of properties across Canada. Sarah also serves as Treasurer for the International Association of Healthcare Safety and Security’s Ontario chapter, volunteers with ASIS International’s Toronto chapter, is engaged in the 14 Division Toronto Police Service’s Community Police Liaison Committee, and is a member of the Association of Public-Safety Communications Officials. She is also currently enrolled in Wilfred Laurier University’s Master of Public Safety Program and a graduate of Humber College’s Police Foundations program with honours. Her professional passions include writing, employee engagement, safety, and compliances.
